Israel is a unique blend of intriguing traditions, religions and nature that makes it one of the worlds most desirable destinations. Half a billion birds, more than every other place in the world, pass through Israel every fall and spring. Nature protectors try to woo more tourists into the country in order to strengthen their own nature protection lobby.
Israels population is made up of Jews who have come here from all over the world. For this reason, Israeli cuisine is diverse and really good. For the best, cheapest food, go to a small restaurant which just has two or three tables out on the pavement. Youll also find western fast food restaurants. Israel has a large area of desert. More than half of the country is taken up by it, the rest is fertile land. The north sees a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. In summer the coast sees muggy mornings but pleasant afternoons and the inland hills see dry and sunny daytime conditions with temperatures dropping at night: winter brings both heavy rain and the odd snow shower. The desert area is obviously very hot but nights are chilly and crisp.

The Israeli railroads infrastructure has been upgraded significantly in the past 10 years. While until 1996 most of trains & railroads were bizarre collections of British “leftovers” from the mandatory occupation that lasted until 1948, nowadays Israeli trains can take you almost anywhere in Israel and (almost) right on time.
Most of the train stations have been rebuilt, and the train cars themselves are made by top-of-the-line European train-car manufacturers. The ride itself is usually very smooth and comfortable and most on the trains do make it right on time (which is very rare, generally speaking in the middle east and Israel).
